Living in South London for the past three years. Originally from India where I did my undergrad in Mumbai in Chemistry. Have been using science and academia as an opportunity to travel around the world. Hoping to become a certified scuba-diver or sky-diver when I have time and money. I work with medicinal bullets which are nano-sized. They carry medicines inside the body to treat diseases like cancers, tumours and pain. I design them or put radioactivity on them to see where they go inside the body and how they work. Also, I am looking at new methods to get these medicinal bullets inside the brain using ultrasound to treat brain diseases. To do all of the above, I use chemistry to design the molecules and track these molecules inside the body.

My Typical Day:
I wake up in the morning and read through loads of news. Reach work and put up some chemical reactions which do their magic while I attend some meetings. Then I load radioactivity and drugs on the chemical molecules before using my science equipment to run some tests on them.

The work starts with reading about the problem at hand. I read papers and information about what we know about a disease and what we need to find. This provides an idea to follow and design the required small molecule to target the disease. After the synthesis of the molecule I load it with some radioactive stuff while wearing special gear followed by injection of the radiolabeled tracer inside subjects and tracing it around the body non-invasively. The results obtained are analyzed and presented to everyone around the world through conferences, papers and seminars.

What I'd do with the prize money:
Preparation of a working installation to highlight the uses of medical imaging to children/adults in science fairs and exhibtions.
