In addition to what Bagteshwar said, we know that the virus that causes COVID-19 came from a bat.
Many viruses and bacteria jump from animals to humans (the fancy word for this is a zoonotic virus).
It is quite rare for a virus to jump from animal to human though (most viruses are spread from human to human).
This doesn’t mean you should be scared of all animals though! Washing your hands after petting any animal is always a good idea just to be safe!
