Question: what is your favourite part of being a vet and working with animals

My favourite part of being a vet is the enormous differences we can make to animal’s life just through the way we communicate to their owners. Almost all animals that come to a vet practice come with an owner attached to them, who is responsible for shaping that animal’s health throughout its entire life.

If you give an animal an injection or a tablet, you can impact their health for a day or maybe a week. But if you explain to an owner a small change they can make at home that will prevent the development of a disease in the first place, by explaining the science behind that disease, you can create an impact on that animal’s health and welfare that lasts for its entire life.

In this regard, communication can quite literally be medication.
