I currently work as a researcher at King’s College University, in the department of Biomedical Engineering. My work involves a lot of coding and computer programming to solve medical related problems, focusing at the moment on ultrasound scanning for fetal imaging. I apply artificial intelligence, specifically deep learning to help train computers, to learn to see and distinguish what humans and clinicians see. This is something I find very rewarding because even though I have an engineering background I get to work closely with clinicians and in a hospital environment. Within my work I get to write papers and show my work to other researchers in the world, meaning I get to go to conferences around the world to speak about my work. For example I have had the chance to go to Sicily and Texas.

My Typical Day:
I get up in the morning, checking emails and work messages. Then I head into the office (well the home office as it’s been for the past 6 months), spending most of the time coding. After finishing the day and any meetings, I head home (or back to my bedroom) and end the night with a nice movie or book.

I get up in the morning, checking emails and work messages usually through breakfast. Then I head into the office (well the home office as it’s been for the past 6 months), spending most of the time coding and writing machine learning algorithms to help clinicians solve imaging problems. At the moment this involves improving the scanning of pregnant ladies, meaning I got to spend one day a week in the hospital watching the ultrasound scanning of pregnant ladies which was super exciting! Some days would also involve reading and writing papers to be able to show my work to other people in the world who are working in a similar field. After finishing the day and any meetings, I head home (or back to my bedroom) and end the night with a nice movie or book.
